Hi!
My name is Nick and I’m a dubbing actor in streaming shows, movies, and games. I’ve also created or fixed the pronunciation guides on dozens of Korean projects I’ve worked on. I have seen firsthand the difficulty in specifically localizing names of Asian origin, and I’ve seen many mispronunciations make it into actual projects I’ve worked on. I've also known what it's like to feel unconfident about my own pronunciations, particularly when working on Mandarin shows.
I created this tool as a resource for actors, directors, adapters, and clients working in Korean content localization. Despite everyone’s best efforts, I frequently heard mispronounced Korean names in dubs for shows, movies, and games and was often asked to deliberately mispronounce names myself during recording sessions.
Pronunciation issues create more frustration and more pickups than any other issue I can think of. This can lead to wasted time and money for clients, studios, directors, and actors alike. I created Pronounce My as an easy solution with immediate results so that localization teams are not potentially waiting multiple time zones or business days to receive correspondence from around the globe.
As a biracial Korean American and multilingual localization professional with a background in tech, this tool is my contribution to mitigating language and cultural barriers, so that everyone in the localization pipeline can be on the same page and focus on content, not the intricate minutiae of linguistics.
